At the beach

A year ago we were in Havana,* a dreadful place.

Now we’re in Zihuatanejo, Mexico, a delightful place.

Again, it’s our anniversary, 11 years, longer than I’ve ever been married to anyone although I did live with Wife #2 for almost eight years before we made it legal, giving us nearly 19 years of stressful togetherness.

palmMy child bride and I spent eight nights in Cuba. We’ll be here just three. We flew to Havana, but we drove to Zihua.

That’s what folks call it: Zee-wah.

If you want to share the experience, you can do so via this webcam. Scroll down to the bottom to see where Playa La Ropa is. Then return to the top. If it’s between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Central Time, we’ll be waving.

* * * *

* There were two Havana posts. The second is here. Cuba is worth one visit, if only to witness the dismal effects of Communism, a political system that still has its nutty admirers in the Free World.

  1. Happy anniversary, your wife is indeed lucky for several reasons.

    Zihua is one neat place because it is not overrun with tourists and high-rises like the neighbor to the north, and is not flooded with too many visitors either.
    We were there about two weeks ago right after Semana Santa and it was the best time of the year to go. Almost makes me want to have a place there, but I wouldn’t enjoy the heat nine months out of the year. It’s close enough to hop over to anytime we want.

    Have a great time!

    1. Tancho: We just returned this afternoon. We left Sunday.

      True, it is not overrun with tourists, but there are considerably more tourists, foreign ones, there than here where we live. It’s easy to detect that when the locals often respond in fractured English even after I say something to them in Spanish. We’ve gone there one or two times a year for six or seven years, and we used to see cruise ships in the bay regularly. No more. Not this year. Not last year either. The dang Gringo media has put such a scare into people who might otherwise have visited. It’s pathetic.

      It was comparatively cool this visit, the first time that’s ever happened. We always go in either Spring or Fall, and it’s usually sweltering, but not this time. The downside was that the ocean was cold and rough, so we did pool time instead, but the pool was quite brisk too.

  2. Happy anniversary. I just saw you and your wife waving to the web-cam. 😉 We got about 4 inches of snow last night in Monument Colorado so I am jealous!!!
