Gold standard of Woke

With our nightly salads around 8ish, we relax in our recliners and watch Netflix. Just recently we’ve begun a new series. It’s called New Amsterdam, which is the name of a fictional New York hospital lightly based on the real Bellevue.

It’s a pretty good series, a medical drama, better than average, which is why I have not deep-sixed the damn thing because the Woke level is beyond belief.

There is no leftist obsession that New Amsterdam does not present in a deliberate and positive light. We are halfway through the first season of 22 shows, so they’ve plenty of time to insert more nincompoopery. It’s so in-your-face that I began a list to avoid overlooking anything. I share with you:

  1. The election of Obama in 2008 was a glorious event.
  2. Interracial relationships are common and best.
  3. Gay couples are everywhere.
  4. Gay couples with adopted Asian children.
  5. Police target blacks often and on purpose.
  6. Abortion is great.
  7. Unions are great.
  8. Lesbian cello players with heads shaved on one side. Great!
  9. Diversity! Diversity! Diversity!
  10. Toxic masculinity is dreadful.
  11. Sex-change surgery for minors is fine and dandy.*

And, as mentioned, we’re only halfway through the first season. Television shows and movies today are, of course, crammed with PC propaganda, but New Amsterdam takes it to an incredibly high level. Alas, it’s still an interesting story.

There is one puzzling thing. The lead character, a straight, white dude, is not married to a black woman. Nor is she Asian, Samoan, Aborigine or Eskimo. She’s white too!

It’s a shocking breach of the new norms.

Oddly, the show’s story lines, with the exception of the kid wanting a sex change, would not be altered in the slightest if all of the PC talking points were eliminated entirely. They are pure unnecessary propaganda.

* Alabama, to its great credit, recently made assisting sex changes for minors a felony with stiff prison terms. At least one other state is considering the same. Meanwhile, Biden has nominated a transsexual who supports sex changes for minors to a health post.

The blessings of Trump

I BRING THIS to you as a public service.

If you’re already a Trump fan, it will just reinforce your wise choice. If you’re not, then it will just twist your knickers! So this video is dual-purpose.

Enjoy.

The abortion thing

Health care? No. Abortion? Yes.

LET’S TALK about abortion.

I’m a fence-straddler on this contentious topic. Not being a Christian, I have no religious issue with it. Like many people, abortion has been a part of my life.

My first wife got pregnant unexpectedly. It was before we married. We were young and shocked. Rather quickly she found an abortion doctor. This was before Roe versus Wade.

It was illegal.

I, however, was troubled and nixed it.

We married, and my life sailed in a direction it would have not sailed otherwise. I still feel the effects.

An unexpected pregnancy for young people is like a 10-ton boulder rolling down the mountain straight at you.

You can dodge it with an abortion. Or you can stand still, wide-eyed, and see what happens.

I support abortion rights when done early, and the fetus is just a nub. Where it gets troubling is when it’s done later and the fetus is a formed child.

Early, yes. Late, no. If you drag your feet making a decision, tough luck. Be decisive.

There’s lots of hubbub about Planned Parenthood, which is an abortion provider, and nothing more. Its supporters say it’s about women’s health. That’s baloney.

A reporter recently phoned Planned Parenthood facilities in various states to ask what prenatal services were provided. The answers were all the same. No prenatal services offered.

Planned Parenthood is an abortion mill, period. And given the strong emotions on the subject in many quarters, it should not be receiving taxpayer money.

Let the customers pay.

If you get pregnant unexpectedly, decide what you want to do with no dilly-dallying, and make an appointment with a doctor who provides the service. It’s legal.

Don’t wait five months and do it. It’s grisly.

Numerous undercover investigations have been done into Planned Parenthood, and what’s been discovered is quite disturbing. You’ll never see these reports in the socialist media like Huffpost, Mother Jones and The New York Times.

Abortion should stay legal for early stage. Illegal in the late stage.* To outlaw it altogether will just return us to the days of blood-soaked butchery in back alleys.

Outlawing all abortions is like outlawing drug use. It just creates worse problems. Use common sense.

* Being an anti-government guy, I find even this troubling.

(Note: Later in my first marriage, we had another child, another accident. Ian Lee was born prematurely and with two club feet. He died three days later. After that, I got a vasectomy. I was 24 and out of the procreation game. My daughter recently turned 51 and lives in Athens, Georgia, with her husband. She is thick as thieves with her mother and has little to do with me. Irony.)

Nomenclature

THERE’S LOTS of name-calling happening in the political sphere these days north of the Rio Bravo.

It’s something I avoid. Name-calling, that is. I avoid it because I am a Southern Boy, and my mama taught me to be nice.

leftYet a friend who votes Democratic — twice for Weepy Barry* —  says I call names. He believes this because I refer to him as collectivist and left-wing.

I intend no disrespect, just clarity of speech.

This is not name-calling. There exists a political divide as everyone knows. On the right side are conservatives, libertarians and the occasional Fascist. On the left are “liberals,” “progressives”** and the occasional Communist.

When I say someone is left-wing, leftist, etc., it is stating that the person in question is to the left of the political divide. I also favor the term collectivist when speaking of leftists.

Collectivist refers to the left’s embrace of collective action to solve problems. One of the primary differences between leftists and rightists is the left’s liking of collective solutions.

Rightists generally dislike collective solutions. We prefer freedom of choice.*** If you want to help someone individually, you do so. If you want to join a collective to solve problems, you are free to do so, but you are not coerced.

Leftists embrace coercive methods to promote collective solutions. Rightists abhor coercion. Obamacare is a classic case of coerced collective action to solve a problem.

rightRightists don’t get riled when called right-wingers or rightists. We embrace it as a badge of honor and clear thinking. We are, with some few exceptions, people who prefer freedom.

I will admit that the far edge of Rightism, like the far edge of Leftism, often embraces tyranny. Tyranny is dreadful, no matter if it’s brought to you by a Hitler or a Stalin.

Leftists don’t like being called leftists, and they often deny the label in spite of crystal-clear evidence that they are.

A few years ago, I accurately referred here to a friend as a left-winger. She quickly emailed to call me an a-hole, but she spelled it out. A-hole is a lovely example of name-calling.

Alas, she is now on comment-moderation status.

A-hole is name-calling. So is jackass, sumbitch, pendejo (Spanish name-calling), well, I could go on. You know true name-calling when you see it.

Leftist and rightist do not fall into the category of name-calling. They are accurate adjectives. Collectivism is the preferred political system of leftists. It is not name-calling either.

Check your Funk & Wagnalls.

And anyone who voted for Weepy Barry, the most leftist president in U.S. history, not once but twice, is clearly a leftist, which is not name-calling. It’s a political preference.

One should embrace one’s preferences, not deny them. In that spirit, I will be categorizing posts here in a new fashion. When they deal with politics, it will clearly state Right-Wing View above the headline. See above.

When it’s dealing with my Mexican world, you will see Mexican Life. If I ever post fiction again — which seems unlikely — you will see Fiction. Anything that does not fall into one of these three categories will be labeled The Odd Pot.

These categories appear just above the post headline.

* Since Barack Hussein Obama recently shed tears during a speech about gun control, I will henceforth refer to him as Weepy Barry. He continues to embarrass his nation.

** I put these in quote marks because I do not believe they are accurate adjectives for today’s Democrat Party.

*** Yeah, I know. Not where abortion is involved. Rightists are imperfect people, as are all people.

(Note: Some voters claim to be “Independents.” I don’t buy it. In the severely separated political world of today, you cannot be a fence-sitter. Bill O’Reilly says he’s Independent, which is laughably ridiculous.)
