What’s up with Democrats?

I was a Democrat above the Rio Bravo all of my life, and I continued with that mindset till the 2008 presidential election.

One of the numerous things that caused me to switch sides was the inaugural in January 2009. A news camera was behind the stage just before Obama stepped out to take the oath of office. He had the look of a deer caught in the headlights. It really stuck with me. He no longer has that attitude. Quite the contrary. He’s full of himself.

It’s incredible that so many otherwise intelligent people continue to vote for Democrats. For decades now, states and cities run by Democrats are messes. High crime, high taxes, and bad ideas run rampant. Republicans create much nicer places.

As this six-minute video points out, people and businesses are fleeing blue states and moving to red states. It is never the reverse, just as Cubans raft from their island to Key West, not in the other direction. Incidentally, it’s not uncommon to encounter Democrats who think Cuba is a fine and dandy place.

I’ve been there. It’s not.

Even famous liberal — the term actually applies to him, mostly — Bill Maher states the obvious. Perhaps some Democrat who reads The Moon — and who has not been blocked for rudeness — can explain why he or she sticks with that party. It’s a legitimate mystery to me.

Thanks in advance. I know you are out there.

Masks, flags & words

Yes, it’s that time again, time to focus on leftist lunacy. First, we stress the political aspect, with Bill Maher, of the Kung Flu, and then there’s that New York Times editorial writer who is “disturbed” by seeing American flags. She is young, female and black,* so you know she was a diversity hire, i.e. affirmative action. I’m unfamiliar with the other NYT editorial writers, but you can count on their being cut from similar cloth.

If you get your “news” from the NYT or The Washington Post and their ilk, you are misinformed to a shocking degree. You need help.

Regular reading of The Unseen Moon is a good start. We’re here to assist.

A word about words

There’s lots of name-calling going on in these troubled times, and much of it is outdated. Indeed, many words now are misused, often intentionally for political purposes. The most obvious is that almost everyone mistakenly refers to leftists as “liberals” and “progressives,” which would be laughable aside from the dreadful effects of it. Leftists are masters of word twists. Conservatives are perilously lousy at it.

Leftists call conservatives “Nazis” and “fascists,” which we aren’t. But when conservatives refer to modern leftists as “Marxists,” there is little correct about that either. Did Marx opine on misgendering, sex-change surgeries, non-binary pronouns, biological men in women’s sports? Was Marx “offended” at this, that and the other? Was there a Marx Cancel Culture? Would Marx have tried to get someone fired for having a different opinion?

Did Marx self-loathe because he was white? (Watch the appalling video below.)

Would Marx have been on board with gay marriage? Did Marx oppose traditional marriage? The answer to all those questions is no. About the only thing Marxist about today’s left is big government and obligated income equality. The other stuff? Nah.

Modern leftists are much more than Marxists. They are far worse.

And Republicans are the liberals now.

*The most notable of those three characteristics is her youth. Editorial writers should possess wisdom and knowledge, something young people rarely have. Traditionally, editorial boards consist of older people with experience in the journalism trenches. They are not indoctrinated, diversity hires right out of Rutgers or NYU.

Capital nincompoop

This is a fun one. You’re gonna like it.

Nincompoop and ignoramus are about the only verbal put-downs I rely on. Stronger stuff runs rampant on the internet, but not here where decorum reigns. But I love my two put-downs, and it’s a pleasure when I see others use them, especially the first one. And it’s even more enjoyable when it’s my favorite news channel, Sky News Australia.

This brief video has Rita Panahi, a delightful broadcaster, taking Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez behind the proverbial shed for a really good and much-deserved whupping. AOC is a textbook example of the downside of universal suffrage. Nincompoop hardly touches the level of her, well, you know. She’s a Democrat, of course. The party should be quite proud.

One cannot watch AOC and not think of Bill Maher’s recent observation that America is now a nation of silly people. And you would be hard-pressed to find a sillier one than AOC.

Nation of silly people

In the early 1990s, when I was still a Democrat, I watched Bill Maher’s TV show, Politically Incorrect, when I visited my mother in Atlanta. I liked Maher, and I liked the name of his show. Even when I was a Democrat, I considered political correctness horrendous.

And now PC is the bedrock of the Democrat Party.

When I wised up in 2008 and abandoned the Democrat Party, which I now correctly call the Democrat Socialist Party, I continued to see Maher online now and then. He considers himself a classical liberal and often criticizes today’s Democrat Socialists, which is smart, but he also badmouths Trump, which is ignorant.

Though primarily a leftist, Maher is often a fence-sitter. He straddles it with one leg in the Democrat Party and the other in a sea of common sense. One side is rank and smelly while the other side is clear thinking and sunshine.

But he sometimes hits topics on the nail head, which he does in this video. For years, I have called America a nation of spoiled people, folks who’ve never faced an existential threat in their lives, people who do not know history.

Maher is at times humorous and potty-mouthed (because he’s a Democrat) in the video, but what he’s saying is serious as a cemetery. And true.
