Flaming New Year’s

A burned-out skeleton.

FOR WEEKS, it had been a spectacular sight on our town’s plaza. A Christmas tree about three stories tall.

Not a tree actually, an artwork, lamentably flammable.

Thursday afternoon, on the cusp of New Year’s Eve, a fire erupted at the top and worked its way down. Apparently, a kid lit a pyrotechnical device nearby, and it landed on the tree.

The flames consumed about two-thirds of the elegant structure before a fire truck arrived and extinguished it.

And so ended 2015.

Below is a “Before” shot I found on Facebook.

(UPDATE: It will be rebuilt. Since Christmas is not the big day for children in Mexico — Three Kings Day is — and that doesn’t arrive till next week, it will be repaired for the kiddies, according to the mayor.)

Another upper cut

girl

IF THIS WERE not perilously threatening to national security, we could all burst out in howling laughter. We could even fall on the floor and roll around in a total giggle fit.

To what am I referring? The politically correct, feminist nonsense of wanting to put the ladies into hardcore military combat units that even most men can’t do.

Recently, I shared with you the news that 100 percent of applicants had flunked out of the Marine Corps Infantry Officer Course. Every single one of the women was overwhelmed.

Today we learn that 100 percent of applicants washed out of the Army Ranger School in the first phase. That’s right. They never even made it to first base.

How much longer will it be before the famously and necessarily tough training in those two services is watered down to shove some ladies through to justify the collectivist and feminist delusion that women and men are cut from the same camouflage cloth? It won’t be much longer, I predict.

Police and fire departments have already done it. Shame on them.

The Russians and Chinese are not doing this. Certainly not the Mohammedans.

Let us weep, yet again, for a once great nation. And marvel at the silliness in which it swims.

Women and men are different

TRYING TO INSERT women into the Marine Corps infantry officer ranks has, not surprisingly, failed utterly.

marine

The Marine Corps got along famously for decades without women in its infantry, and that is how it should be. Then feminism reared its Butchy head, frightening the Marines, something they should be eternally embarrassed about, and they opened training for infantry officers to the distaff side.

Not surprisingly, the ladies couldn’t keep up. Most men can’t keep up. Women had nary a prayer. But due to the silly egalitarian/victim culture in which the United States now wallows, they had to be given a chance.

Women do have a place in the military, and that place is far back at headquarters, doing the thinking. Women are equal to men in the thinking area, but not in the brawn department.

Women should not be firemen either, which is one of the most physically grueling occupations that exists.

It’s nutty that these common-sense conclusions are considered reactionary these days.
