No free lunch

Here is a five-minute look at unions, both private and public. Private unions are imploding while public ones, funded by cash strong-armed from taxpayers, are doing just fine, thank you.

And, as usual, unions and their associated corruption are supported by the Democrat/Socialist Party in the United States.

I bring this to you as a public service. A tip of the sombrero to the brilliant Dr. Thomas Sowell.

My closest encounter with unionism was at the San Juan Star where not only was the composing room unionized, which was the case at the New Orleans paper when I worked there, but the newsroom was unionized too. But during the nearly two years I toiled in San Juan, no one ever approached me about joining. Dunno why.

So I got union pay without paying union dues.

The union at the San Juan Star was run by the local communist party. My stay in Puerto Rico was broken into two parts, and the reason was labor strikes.

After the first strike, which left me unemployed, I took a roundabout route back to the United States, meandering through Haiti and Mexico by plane and train. The strike was fairly brief, so I returned to San Juan. Months later, the union struck again, and I left forever.

The labor union eventually drove the paper out of business, years later. I really liked Puerto Rico and would have settled there except for the union and the communist party.

I’m not fond of unions or communists.

Nadia and Simon

I watch YouTube a lot because it contains an incredible amount of interesting stuff, and included in that are excellent, smart people. I prefer short videos because I’ve developed a USA Today attitude, which is to say hop to it, and get to the point.

Above is New York Nadia whom I just recently discovered. She gets directly to the point, and her points are first-rate. In this video, she tells feminists not to be horses’ butts, but in nicer words.

And, as regulars here know, I am also a big fan of Simon Webb, a brilliant, English historian and author with a delightfully bushy, British mustache. I wish I could grow a Limey mustache like that, but I don’t have the upper lip for it.

Webb looks here at the sad situation in which the politically correct British government has allowed Speaker’s Corner in London, a place where anyone could speak his mind about anything, to be gagged so as not to offend the sensibilities of Mohammedans, whom the Brits have stupidly permitted to enter their once-peaceful nation in droves.

Speaker’s Corner has existed since the 19th century. Free speech reigned. Multiculturalism now reigns, and the most menacing new cultures determine what can be said, who can open his mouth. Simon’s not quite as succinct as Nadia. His videos usually last about six minutes compared to Nadia’s two or three.

In closing, here’s another of Nadia’s in which she takes to task Chicago’s Mayor Lori Lightfoot who is a black, race-obsessed lesbian in a biracial relationship, which is the PC Trifecta and therefore immune from criticism, but not to Nadia. Lightfoot is, of course, a Democrat mayor, one of the worst, which is saying something.

The leftist thugs who run YouTube regularly censor Simon Webb. I haven’t been following Nadia long enough to know if her pinpoint observations receive the same treatment.

Welcome to the right side

Want to have a good time? Watch WalkAway videos on YouTube. Staunch members of the Democrat Socialist Party, formerly known as the Democrat Party, will tell you it’s a fake movement of Russian bots, or something like that, but it’s quite real, formed by Brandon Straka, a gay, New York City hairstylist, two years ago.

Thousands of people are abandoning the Democrat Socialist Party and moving to the GOP. There is no corresponding movement of people going in the other direction. Think of it this way: Cubans paddle toward Key West, but no one paddles toward Havana.

What’s perhaps most interesting about the WalkAway Movement is its diversity. Blacks, Anglos, Latinos, Christians, non-believers, men, women, straights, gays, transsexuals, you name it, which puts the lie to what the Democrat Socialist Party would have you believe, that the GOP is just racist, straight, white rednecks. We are the real rainbow.

The video above is a good example. Meet Ricky Rebel from Hollywood.

If you’ve always voted Democrat, as I did till 2007, know that you can join the multitude that’s quitting the Democrat Socialists, and you can vote in your best interests. Don’t be a sheep. Don’t listen to CNN, NPR or read The New York Times or The Washington Post if you want accurate news.

Hop on the raft to our Key West. You’ll find free speech, a sense of humor, mojitos, black bean soup and empanadas waiting on the dock, nice and warm.

Mexico elects its own Trump

THE CANDIDATE called AMLO won Mexico’s presidency yesterday, big-time.

AMLOAs Donald Trump won the U.S. presidency because people were fed up with the corrupt status quo, AMLO won for precisely the same reason.

While Americans chose the conservative firebrand Trump intelligently, I fret that Mexicans chose the left-wing firebrand ALMO unintelligently. Leftism is a loser philosophy that has led nowhere good countless times.

TRUMPMy only solace comes from the fact that AMLO was the mayor of Mexico City for a spell, and he didn’t turn it into Havana. Time will tell.

I leave you with the following quote from H.L. Mencken:

Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard.
