As promised a couple of weeks ago in Roses of September, the final monster aloe vera has been cut down to size, not totally eliminated as we did with the other one in July, but made more manageable, more petite.
One reason I did this is because when the rainy season fades away, we’ll be hiring guys to uproot the grass you see in the photos and replace it with stone and concrete as my ongoing lawn-replacement campaign soldiers on, perhaps to be completed before I die.
The aloe vera was poking way out over some of the grass, plus it was long overdue for some stern discipline anyway.
The rear gate was open during the butchery yesterday, so in walks the cheeky kid who lives out back, uninvited. I was sitting on the yard patio in a web chair overseeing the aloe vera trimming when he walks up and sits with me. I took his photo.
He had never been into our yard before and was quite impressed.
He, his parents and numerous siblings live across the street in what would accurately be called a miserable hovel. But he has a good attitude and is likable. When I stood up to go inside for breakfast, he walked to the dining room window and peered through the glass. I waved.
The work ended. The guys drove off with the green garbage in their pickup truck to dump God knows where — I don’t ask — and the neighbor boy was ushered out the back gate by me. Adiós, kiddo! Everything returned to normal.
The aloe vera appears as if it returned from a week at Weight Watchers.
Before you depart today, it will be fun to chuckle at the notions of the nutty folks on the other side of the political divide. Enjoy!
It neglected to mention the (half) black president!
Democrats, with some notable exceptions — people who are to be praised — do not just dislike President Trump. They do not just dislike him a lot, as I did President Obama. No, they absolutely loathe him with a burning fury.
What on earth is up with that? I truly do not understand it.
He did, after all, win the presidency fair and square.
I especially do not understand the loathing given that, from what I see, he’s one of the best presidents in American history. Lists of his numerous achievements are available online. I won’t repeat them here because it would fill too much space, but here are three links with the headlines of the lists. Many more are available online.
Probably best to do a search that’s not run by Google. I recommend DuckDuckGo.
You will not find these accomplishments in the mainstream media. If you do encounter a reference to one or more, you will likely be told it is false. It is unlikely to be false. This denial of his accomplishments is part of the burning fury, of course.
Again, the burning fury mystifies me. Maybe some rational Democrat can explain it, politely, of course, which is a challenge for many of you. Don’t say he’s racist because there is no indication of that. There is lots of proof to the contrary. See photo below.
And now, Trump has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for negotiating the deal between Israel and the United Arab Emirates. He will not win, of course, due to the makeup of the committee that decides, the people who gave Obama the Peace Prize 10 minutes after his inauguration simply for being (half) black.
Obama’s winning the Peace Prize was political. Trump’s not winning is also political.
Much of the loathing has to do with Trump’s confrontational manner, but why is he at times confrontational? Is his brusque manner the chicken or the egg? If you pay attention to his grenade-tossing, you will note that it’s invariably a response to something. If you fire a slingshot at him, or even toss a rock, he will respond with a bazooka.
I find that appropriate and highly entertaining. He’s today’s Teddy Roosevelt.
But the list of his accomplishments is long and impressive.
Want to have a good time? Watch WalkAway videos on YouTube. Staunch members of the Democrat Socialist Party, formerly known as the Democrat Party, will tell you it’s a fake movement of Russian bots, or something like that, but it’s quite real, formed by Brandon Straka, a gay, New York City hairstylist, two years ago.
Thousands of people are abandoning the Democrat Socialist Party and moving to the GOP. There is no corresponding movement of people going in the other direction. Think of it this way: Cubans paddle toward Key West, but no one paddles toward Havana.
What’s perhaps most interesting about the WalkAway Movement is its diversity. Blacks, Anglos, Latinos, Christians, non-believers, men, women, straights, gays, transsexuals, you name it, which puts the lie to what the Democrat Socialist Party would have you believe, that the GOP is just racist, straight, white rednecks. We are the real rainbow.
The video above is a good example. Meet Ricky Rebel from Hollywood.
If you’ve always voted Democrat, as I did till 2007, know that you can join the multitude that’s quitting the Democrat Socialists, and you can vote in your best interests. Don’t be a sheep. Don’t listen to CNN, NPR or read The New York Times or The Washington Post if you want accurate news.
Hop on the raft to our Key West. You’ll find free speech, a sense of humor, mojitos, black bean soup and empanadas waiting on the dock, nice and warm.
In the next block, there’s a little grocery store, what we call abarrotes in Spanish. With few exceptions, they are very small, and they are all over the place. Some might say they are ubiquitous, but I just say they’re all over the place.
We patronize that store often. There’s another, perhaps 20 feet closer and just around the corner, that we long patronized, but the owner is such a distrustful sourpuss, we gave up on her years back. May she go bankrupt. Her husband is quite nice, however.
The store we now use has a fair stock, far better than a year or so ago when it was so poorly stocked that it was mostly useless. The owner has a daughter with severe Down’s Syndrome, and the owner is also the mother of the wife of the couple who own the house directly next to the Hacienda, a sour pair also. If someone tells you how friendly Mexicans are, come to my block for a dose of reality.
Lots of Mexicans are friendly, of course, but not as friendly as your typical resident of small-town Georgia or Mississippi or Alabama. Not even close.
Our abarrotes sells us tomatoes, avocados, eggs and tostadas more than anything, but those are staples, so we go down there almost every day.
What has this to do with “understanding Democrats,” which is what the headline says? Nothing. I just thought I’d provide a little local color first. You’d like my abarrotes. No one wears masks in there. It’s like the olden days.
A year or two ago I opened a Facebook page for a while. I come and go on Facebook. I should go permanently, as should we all. At that time, I opened the Facebook account to see what my former Houston newspaper colleagues were up to. There are lots of them, and every one, 100 percent, were swimming in the Sea of Trump Hate.
A couple of old amigos who worked in the composing room downstairs exhibited good sense, but the newsroom types were all dizzy with Trump Loathing. This perplexes me. You’d expect some to dislike him, but 100 percent? And why not me? That’s the even larger question especially since I was a lifelong Democrat until 12 years ago.
Perhaps I’m just smarter than they are. Or maybe it’s because I live outside the United States. International living tends to make one less myopic.
It’s clear to me that Trump is doing an excellent job in the face of the rabid opposition he sees every day. His list of accomplishments are long and excellent. Of course, you must know where to get accurate information because most news media do not provide it.
They lie, slant and omit. CNN “fact-checked” the speakers at the Republican convention. It did not “fact-check” speakers at the Democrat convention. Could the bias be more bald-faced and arrogant?
This morning, I glanced at the Facebook page of a close, former coworker. She snarkily mentioned Trump’s “militias.” Of course, he has no militias. She was referring to Trump’s having legally and sensibly sent federal officers to protect a federal building in one of those Democrat cities where Antifa and Black Lives Matters tried to destroy it, and where the Democrat city administration looked the other way on purpose.
Interesting how people can look at the same situation and come away with polar opposite impressions. I wonder what my former coworker thinks of PresidentEisenhower’s sending in the 101st Airborne to help black kidsenter a desegregated school in Little Rock, Arkansas, in 1957? The desegregation was opposed, of course, by Arkansas Gov. Orville Faubus.
Like Abe Lincoln, Eisenhower was a Republican, and Faubus was a Democrat. No surprise.
The U.S. Army is better than a militia. Perhaps Trump will have to send in the troops, just like President Eisenhower did, after he wins the November election.
To New York, Seattle, Portland, Chicago and their disruptive ilk.
I doubt Democrats will settle down and accept democracy after Trump’s re-election. Their apoplectic, four-year insurrection will just worsen.
