The duet

FOR MANY years, I’ve been singing that promoting multiculturalism is a recipe for disaster. The keyword is promoting. Putting it on a pedestal.

Nobody has ever paid me a dime’s worth of attention. Nobody has ever flatly agreed that I recall. I get either disagreement or, far more often, stony silence.

It’s one of those topics I occasionally address here that sends most everyone scurrying for the nearest exit.

Saying cultural diversity is bad is akin nowadays to saying Jews were good in 1930s Germany. You simply did not say it. It was/is verboten. Saying diversity is bad today, like saying Jews were good in 1930s Germany, can lead to ostracism, loss of job and murder. This is not hyperbole.

Virtually everyone now says they embrace diversity. Whether they actually do or not is another matter.

Individuals, corporations, universities, you name it. They all will tell you they just love diversity to death.

I’m referring to the Western world. You can see diss diversity in other areas of the world without fear because most of the world understands the value of family and nation.

A cyber-amigo put a smile on my face yesterday by emailing me an article published by the Hoover Institution.

Here’s a key sentence: History offers only a few success stories when it comes to diversity.

More often than not over the centuries, multiculturalism has led to mayhem and murder. I feel vindicated somewhat.

I am not singing a solo anymore. I’m part of a duet.

I left it unlocked for you.

Tread with caution

WITH ALL THE condemnation of Western Civilization — read white people — currently bouncing about the Western world, one wonders if anyone has considered the alternatives.

If the multiculturalists and diversity worshipers manage to stomp out Western Civilization, we’ll need another of the world’s civilizations to replace it, right?

We cannot live in a void, and starting a culture from scratch would be dicey. God knows what we’d end up with.

Being a Mexican, I’m inclined to look first at the Latino world. Should Western Civilization be replaced by the cultures of, say, Guatemala, Bolivia, Paraguay or Honduras?

I don’t think you’d like that very much.

So let’s move on to Africa. Should Western Civilization be replaced by the likes of Uganda, Cameroon, Chad or Rwanda? Those are very different cultures. Perhaps interesting places to visit, but would you wish to live there?

Don’t bet on it.

Well, let’s look at the Middle East. Apart from Israel, which is a Western Civilization transplant to a large degree, the Middle East is ruled mostly by Mohammedans, and they won’t let women drive cars or walk outside without a sheet. They toss homosexuals off buildings and behead infidels.

If you think the Mideast culture — aside from democratic Israel — merits copying, well, there’s no hope for you.

You are a knucklehead.

Asia? Maybe we’ll find a superior culture there. There’s communist Vietnam, communist China, dictatorial Burma, chaotic India, despotic Russia, or maybe vociferously unicultural Japan which loathes diversity.

Which of these often-dreadful cultures  would you like to see replace Western Civilization?

If you think Donald Trump is bad or Barack Obama or Ted Cruz or George W. Bush or Hillary Clinton or Bernie, remember who other cultures have placed in their catbird seats:

Kim Jong-un, Fidel Castro, Hugo Chávez, Vladimir Putin, Augusto Pinochet, Evo Morales, Mao Zedong, Saddam Hussein.

The list goes on and on.

Okay, so forget foreign cultures. Let’s stick to America, specifically Native Americans, peace-loving people cultivating the land, at one with the universe. Kumbaya in buckskins.

Let’s return to our original culture.

indianFirst, you might want to read Empire of the Summer Moon. You’ll be thanking God you weren’t born a Comanche. Or worse: an opposing tribe.

Be careful what you criticize. Tread with caution.

Because you’ve never had it so good. All U.S. citizens are “privileged” no matter the color of their skin.

Anarchy lovers

dennis_pragerI FIRST ENCOUNTERED Dennis Prager on his television show in the early 1990s when I lived in Houston. Now, however, I keep in touch via his online columns.

Prager is sober and perceptive with a laser-like consistency.

An April 26 column headlined Why the Left Loathes Western Civilization is particularly excellent. You are aware, I hope, that the left does indeed loathe Western Civilization.

As Prager mentions, Stanford University students recently voted down, 1,992 to 347, a proposal to require — as it did until the 1980s — a survey course on Western Civilization.

This is lamentable. It is today’s Democrat Party.

Prager says the left loathes Western Civilization because the left hates standards, rules to play by, which is the very essence of any civilization, the opposite being anarchy.

Leftists dislike standards because with standards comes judgment, and leftists don’t want to be judged. Rules of right and wrong cramp their styles.

They prefer anarchy. In theory, at least. It’s one of those things that has a libertine appeal until it punches you in the face.

Those who believe in nothing are very, very jealous and angry with those who believe in something. — Dennis Prager.

A crashing sound

kissingerHENRY KISSINGER reportedly said, back in the 1970s, that America had seen its glory days and — as all civilizations do in time — is headed downward.

Henry and I are of one mind. The evidence is clear. The re-election of a clueless, feckless president in 2012 is one obvious indication. Another is the attitude of youth, especially the allegedly brightest one finds at highbrow universities.

Here are two examples of today’s elitist youth:

First: Ban the the Yuletide classic White Christmas because it’s racist. Of course, the white in White Christmas refers to snow, not the cursed white people who brought us Western Civilization. the Enlightenment, modernity, etc.

Second: Repeal the First Amendment.  Freedom of speech. Who needs it? This comes from students at Yale, no less.

This tomfoolery would be downright hilarious were it not so dangerous, so portentous.

I bring this information to you as a public service, just in case you get your news online from Slate or Huffpost.
